What's the best product to kill bathroom mold for good?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading in the grout between the tiles in our master bathroom shower. It’s especially bad in the corner that never gets any sun. The room always feels humid even with the exhaust fan on. What’s the most effective product I can find locally to kill this and stop it from coming back?

For a surface-level cleaning, concentrated hydrogen peroxide (around 3-6%) or a chlorine-based bleach solution can be effective on non-porous surfaces like tiles. The key is scrubbing the grout to physically remove the biofilm, as the mould's roots can penetrate deep into porous materials.
However, in Dubai's climate, simply killing surface mould is a temporary fix. Your bathroom's constant humidity, even with the fan running, points to a ventilation or moisture issue that will cause it to return. The fan may be underpowered or the room may lack a makeup air source for it to work effectively. For a lasting solution, address the moisture first. Run the exhaust fan for at least 30 minutes after showering and consider a humidity meter to monitor levels. If the mould is widespread, has a musty odour, or you see it on drywall or ceilings, it’s time for a professional inspection. They can identify the species and source of moisture, which is critical for effective remediation, especially with the health risks some species pose. |
