Black wall mold in villa: urgent inspection needed?« Back to Previous Page

Our family villa in Al Barsha has a guest room that's been closed up for a while, and when I opened it today, I found several large black splotches on the wall behind the wardrobe. We had some humidity issues back in March after the heavy rains, and I'm worried it might have gotten worse. Is this something I need to get inspected immediately, or can it wait a couple of weeks until we have guests arriving?

A professional inspection is recommended within the next week. The combination of Dubai's high humidity, past water damage from rains, and a closed, unventilated room creates ideal conditions for mold growth. The "large black splotches" behind furniture suggest a significant moisture issue that needs to be assessed.

In Dubai villas, this often stems from condensation buildup or residual dampness from previous leaks, exacerbated by our climate. A proper inspection involves a moisture meter to check the wall's water content and often includes air sampling to identify the mold type, as some species are more problematic than others. This is crucial for determining the correct remediation strategy.

You should not attempt to scrub it yourself, as this can aerosolize spores and spread them through your AC system. For now, keep the room closed off and the AC switched off in that zone to prevent cross-contamination. A certified inspector can provide a scope of work, which is required by many Dubai landlords or building management before remediation can begin. Addressing it now prevents it from becoming a larger, more costly problem and ensures the room is safe for your guests.
