Can black mold in closet wait until weekend?« Back to Previous Page
|
We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a small patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, which is on an interior wall. It’s been incredibly humid the last few weeks and I'm worried it's spreading. Is this something I need to call a professional about immediately, or can it wait until the weekend?

That small patch is a humidity warning sign. Given Dubai's climate and recent high humidity, it likely indicates trapped moisture in that wall or condensation from your AC. While a weekend wait may be acceptable for a very small, isolated patch, it requires immediate attention to prevent it from becoming a larger issue.
First, identify the moisture source. An interior wall corner suggests possible condensation from a cold pipe inside the wall, a small leak from adjacent plumbing, or simply poor air circulation in the closet. Move everything out, wipe the visible mold with a dilute bleach solution (1 part bleach to 10 parts water), and let the area dry thoroughly. Run a dehumidifier or your AC continuously to lower indoor humidity below 60%, which is crucial here. Monitor it closely. If it returns within 24-48 hours, the moisture source is active and professional assessment is needed to find and fix the root cause—otherwise, it will keep coming back. For any patch larger than one square foot, or if you or family members have respiratory sensitivities, do not wait; seek a professional inspection. They can use moisture meters and thermal cameras to locate the hidden dampness. A certified company with its own microbiology lab can also test to confirm the mold type, as some black molds can be more problematic than others. |
