How urgent is black mold in my Al Barsha closet?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a few small black spots in the corner of our master bedroom closet. It's on the wall that faces the outside of our villa in Al Barsha. With this humidity, I'm worried it's going to spread quickly behind the clothes. How urgent is it that I get a professional to look at this, or can I handle it myself with vinegar?

Black mold in an Al Barsha villa closet is moderately urgent and warrants a professional inspection within the next week or two. The UAE's high humidity, especially during summer months, provides ideal conditions for mold to spread rapidly behind walls, even from small visible spots.

You can clean the surface yourself with a diluted vinegar or hydrogen peroxide solution as a temporary measure, but this only addresses the symptom. The critical issue is identifying and resolving the moisture source. Given the spot is on an exterior wall, the cause is likely condensation from the temperature differential between your air-conditioned room and the hot outside air, or a minor leak.

For a permanent solution, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. They use moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to locate the exact source of dampness within the wall cavity, which is impossible to diagnose visually. In many Dubai villas, this requires addressing insulation gaps or applying anti-condensation coatings on the interior wall surface. Without fixing the root cause, the mold will almost certainly return. A reputable inspector will provide a detailed report with findings and a scope of remedial work, which is essential for verifying the problem is solved correctly.
