AC mold in wall: DIY fix or call Dubai professional« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment seems to be leaking into the wall behind it in our master bedroom, and now we have a large patch of black mold spreading on the wallpaper. It’s been getting worse over the last few weeks since the weather got more humid. I’m worried about the health risks and the damage to the wall. Is this something I can tackle myself with cleaning products, or should I call a professional mold removal company in Dubai, and what would that likely cost for a job this size?

This requires a professional assessment. The combination of AC condensate leakage, interior wall cavities, and visible spreading is beyond a surface cleaning job.

The leak must be fixed first; otherwise, the mould will return immediately. A professional will identify the source—often a clogged condensate drain line or a misaligned drip pan—and repair it. In Dubai's climate, where AC runs year-round, this is a common issue. For the mould itself, porous materials like drywall and wallpaper typically cannot be salvaged and need to be safely removed to prevent spore dispersion. The underlying wall cavity must then be treated with specialized antimicrobial solutions.

Attempting a DIY fix with bleach or common cleaners often worsens the problem by pushing moisture deeper into the wall and failing to address the root cause. The health risk from disturbed spores during improper cleaning is significant. A proper remediation includes containment of the area, HEPA filtration to capture airborne spores, and verification of success through post-remediation testing, which our microbiology lab provides to ensure the environment is safe.
