AC mold in bedroom: DIY fix or professional remediation?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment in Silicon Oasis has been leaking a little and now I’ve found patches of black mold on the back of the wardrobe that shares the wall with it. We’ve been wiping it away but it keeps coming back and the damp smell is really strong. Is this something I can fix myself with cleaners from ACE, or do I absolutely need to call a professional company for mold remediation, and what’s the typical cost range for a small bedroom?

A persistent leak with recurring mold and a strong damp smell indicates a serious moisture issue that likely requires professional remediation. While DIY cleaners from ACE can remove surface mold, they won't address the moisture source or the mold growing inside your wall, which is why it keeps returning.

The Dubai climate, with its high humidity and year-round AC use, creates ideal conditions for mold. The leak is providing constant moisture, allowing mold to colonize porous materials like drywall and wood at the back of your wardrobe. Proper remediation involves identifying the exact leak source, isolating the affected area to prevent spore spread, removing contaminated materials, and using industrial-grade HEPA filtration to clean the air. This is not a surface-level issue.

For a situation like this, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. They can assess the extent of the hidden damage behind the wardrobe and inside the wall cavity. The cost for a small bedroom remediation varies significantly based on the square footage of contamination and the required repairs, but it is an investment in preventing structural damage and potential health issues from prolonged spore exposure. The most critical first step is to have your building's maintenance team fix the AC leak immediately to stop the problem from worsening.
