How urgently should I treat this AC mold in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle seems to be leaking a bit of water onto the carpet below it. I just pulled the carpet back yesterday and found a small patch of black mold, about the size of my hand, on the backing and the concrete floor underneath. With this humidity, how urgently do I need to get this professionally cleaned before it becomes a bigger health hazard?

That situation needs addressing within the next few days. The combination of a constant water drip from the AC and Dubai's high ambient humidity creates an ideal environment for mold to spread quickly behind walls or under flooring.

For a patch the size of your hand, the health risk is currently localized but can escalate, especially for those with allergies or asthma. The priority is to stop the moisture source first; have an AC technician fix the leak immediately to prevent the problem from worsening. Do not attempt to clean it with bleach, as this can aggravate spores without addressing the root moisture.

Professional remediation is advised to properly contain the area, remove the contaminated carpet section, and treat the concrete subfloor. In Dubai's climate, simply drying the visible area is often insufficient, as moisture wicks into the porous concrete. A reputable service will use HEPA vacuums and antimicrobial treatments to prevent regrowth and should provide before-and-after testing to verify the spore count has been returned to a safe level.
