Mold from AC leak: cleaning service or restoration company?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my bedroom has been leaking a bit for a while, and now I’ve found a patch of black fuzzy mold on the wall behind the wardrobe in my Marina apartment. I tried wiping it with vinegar but it came right back and seems to be spreading. Is this a job for a one-off cleaning service, or do I need to call one of those full-on restoration companies? What kind of cost should I expect to properly fix this in Dubai?

Black mold from an AC leak requires more than a simple cleaning service. In Dubai's high humidity, the visible growth is just the symptom; the real problem is the hidden moisture within your wall cavity. A one-off cleaning will fail because it doesn't address the contaminated drywall, insulation, or the AC drain line fault causing the leak.

You need a professional inspection to assess the extent of the damage. The inspector should use a moisture meter to check the wall and potentially an endoscopic camera to see inside. For a small, contained patch, a qualified remediation company can handle it. If the moisture has spread extensively behind the wardrobe and wall, a full restoration company that handles demolition and rebuilds may be necessary.

In Dubai, proper remediation involves isolating the area, removing contaminated porous materials like drywall, HEPA vacuuming, and antimicrobial treatment. Crucially, the AC leak must be fixed by an HVAC technician to prevent immediate recurrence. Expect costs to vary significantly based on the damage scope, but investing in a proper fix now prevents a much larger problem later. Companies with their own microbiology lab can provide post-remediation verification testing, which is the only way to confirm the space is truly safe.
