How can I stop mold from AC leak in Jumeirah?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle seems to be leaking a bit of water onto the carpet below the unit. I’ve been wiping it up, but now I’m getting worried about black spots appearing along the base of the wall. With this humidity, how can I effectively clean this area and stop the mold from coming back for good?

The black spots are a clear sign of mold growth, a common issue here due to our high humidity and constant AC use. The first step is to stop the moisture source; have an AC technician repair the leak immediately. Until then, continue wiping up the water to prevent it from soaking into the wall and carpet.

For cleaning, a solution of detergent and water can remove surface mold from non-porous surfaces. However, porous materials like drywall and carpet padding often need professional remediation if the mold has penetrated deeply, as surface cleaning won't remove the roots. In Dubai's climate, simply wiping the visible mold rarely solves the problem for good because high ambient humidity allows it to regrow quickly from any remaining spores.

To prevent recurrence after fixing the leak, the area must be thoroughly dried. Use dehumidifiers and increased airflow for at least 24-48 hours. Moisture meters are essential to verify the wall and sub-floor are completely dry before considering the job done. For a persistent issue in a wall cavity, a professional inspection with moisture mapping is the most reliable way to assess the full extent of the damage. Companies with their own microbiology lab can also test to identify the mold type, which informs the correct remediation protocol.
