Black mold on my wall: DIY or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

The wall behind my wardrobe in the bedroom has these black speckles spreading across it, and the room has felt damp for the last couple of weeks even with the AC on. I tried wiping it with vinegar, but it just came back darker. Is this something I can tackle myself with bleach or a specific product from ACE, or do I need to call a professional mold removal company here in Dubai?

Black mold on a wall in Dubai often indicates a persistent moisture source, which is common here due to high humidity and condensation from year-round AC use. The fact it returned darker after cleaning with vinegar suggests a deeper issue within the wall cavity that superficial cleaning cannot address.

For a small patch (less than one square meter), you can attempt remediation by wearing an N95 mask and gloves. Use a detergent solution, not bleach, as bleach can worsen the problem by adding moisture and may not kill the roots on porous surfaces. However, DIY is not advisable in this case. The location behind a wardrobe is a major concern; the furniture traps moisture and hides the true extent of the growth, which has likely spread behind the wall. The persistent damp feeling confirms an ongoing humidity problem that must be resolved first.

Professional remediation is strongly recommended. Dubai's climate means mold can regrow rapidly if the root cause—like a hidden condensation leak from an AC duct or rising damp—is not identified and fixed. A proper inspection uses moisture meters and thermal imaging to find the water source. Reputable companies then contain the area, remove contaminated materials safely, and apply specialized treatments to the structure. The final, critical step is a post-remediation verification test from an independent lab to confirm the spore count has returned to safe, indoor levels. This scientific verification is what separates effective remediation from a temporary cover-up.
