Cost to treat black mold in Dubai bathroom professionally?« Back to Previous Page

Our master bathroom in the Mirdif villa has had this musty smell for weeks, and I finally found black mold spots creeping up the wall behind the toilet. It’s been super humid lately and I think the ventilation isn't great in there. What's the typical cost to get this professionally treated in Dubai, and is it a job I should even try to tackle myself with bleach?

Professional mold remediation costs vary significantly based on the extent of contamination. Small, contained patches may be addressed for a few hundred dirhams, while a full bathroom treatment addressing the source and airborne spores can be more. The final quote depends on surface area, whether wall cavities are affected, and the required containment procedures to prevent cross-contamination.

For the black mold described behind your toilet, a professional assessment is strongly recommended. The musty smell indicates potential hidden growth within the wall or under flooring, which DIY surface cleaning cannot address. The high humidity and condensation from year-round AC use in Dubai create a perfect environment for mold to penetrate porous materials like drywall and grout.

Applying bleach is a common but ineffective DIY approach. It only bleaches the visible colour and does not kill the roots (hyphae) penetrating the surface. It can also aggravate the problem by adding moisture. Proper remediation involves identifying the moisture source, containing the area, removing contaminated porous materials, HEPA vacuuming, and antimicrobial treatment.

For an accurate assessment and quote, a certified inspector can use moisture meters and borescopes to evaluate the hidden damage behind the wall, which dictates the scope and cost of the necessary remediation work.
