Can we remove black mold ourselves or need professional in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a large patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, probably from a slow leak in the AC unit. My husband has been having bad allergies and a constant stuffy nose for a month now, which seems to get worse at night. Is this something we can tackle ourselves with bleach from ACE, or is it a definite job for a professional mold remediation company in Dubai, and what would that kind of service roughly cost?

For a patch larger than one square meter, especially with existing health symptoms, professional remediation is strongly advised. The visible mold is likely part of a larger colony, and improper DIY methods can aerosolize spores, spreading them and worsening your husband's allergies.

In Dubai's humid climate, the root cause is often a condensation leak from the AC drain line or an insulation issue within the unit itself. Simply wiping the surface with bleach is ineffective; it bleaches the color but doesn't kill the roots, and it fails to address the moisture source. The mold will return without fixing the AC leak and ensuring the wall cavity is completely dry.

A professional service will first contain the area, use HEPA filtration to remove spores from the air, safely remove contaminated materials, and apply EPA-approved biocides. Crucially, they will also identify and rectify the moisture source to prevent recurrence. For health-related cases, a post-remediation verification test from an independent lab is the only way to confirm the space is safe. The cost is dependent on the extent of the infestation and the required repairs to the AC system, so an on-site assessment is necessary for an accurate scope of work.
