Is this bedroom mold urgent or can I clean it myself?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading along the corner of our bedroom wall where it meets the ceiling, right behind the wardrobe. The room has felt a bit damp lately, even with the AC on. My main concern is, how urgent is it to get this professionally treated, or can I handle it myself with some cleaning spray from the supermarket before it gets worse?

The urgency depends on the size and cause. For a small patch (under 1 square meter), you can attempt to clean it yourself. However, the location behind a wardrobe and the feeling of dampness are red flags for a persistent moisture source.
In Dubai's climate, this is likely due to condensation from the AC unit or a minor leak creating a perfect breeding ground. Simply wiping the visible mold won't fix the underlying humidity problem, and it will almost certainly return. The wall cavity behind the wardrobe may also be worse than what's visible. For a proper fix, move the wardrobe to fully assess the extent. Use a bleach-based cleaner or white vinegar, wearing an N95 mask and gloves. If the staining is extensive, comes back quickly, or you notice a musty smell, it's time for a professional inspection. They use moisture meters and thermal cameras to find the exact moisture source—which is the only way to ensure it doesn't recur. Certified remediation follows Dubai Municipality guidelines for containment and removal to prevent spreading spores. |
