Is urgent mold treatment needed in my bedroom?« Back to Previous Page

My bedroom in our Jumeirah apartment has had this damp, earthy smell for about three weeks now, and I just found a bunch of black spots growing on the back of my wardrobe that's against the outer wall. The weird thing is, the AC is always on. We had some crazy humidity a month ago and I'm worried it got in then. Is this something I need to get treated like, tomorrow, or can it wait until the weekend for a professional to look at?

It's a mold colony, likely triggered by that recent humidity spike interacting with a cold surface. While not typically a weekend emergency, it should be addressed within days. The damp smell indicates active growth, and continuous AC use is spreading spores throughout the room.

In Dubai's climate, outer walls can develop condensation from the extreme temperature differential between the chilled interior and exterior heat. This creates a perfect, hidden moisture source behind furniture. The priority is to stop the growth. Move the wardrobe away from the wall immediately to allow air circulation and dry the surface. Wipe accessible mold with a dilute vinegar solution, but this is a temporary measure for visible growth only.

For a proper assessment, a professional inspection is recommended to identify the moisture source and extent. Treatment involves correcting the condensation issue—often with improved insulation or dehumidification—and thoroughly remediating the colony to prevent regrowth and address airborne spores you’re smelling. A certified provider can conduct this with containment procedures to protect your living space.
