Can I remove this recurring mold myself or need professional?« Back to Previous Page

The wall behind our sofa in the living room has these black fuzzy patches that have slowly grown bigger over the last couple of months. We live in a villa in Jumeirah and I think it started from all the humidity, even with the AC running constantly. I wiped it with vinegar but it came back worse. Is this something I can tackle myself with a stronger cleaner, or do I need to call in a professional mold removal company?

Recurring mold after a DIY treatment like vinegar is a clear sign the issue is beyond surface level. In Dubai's high humidity, especially in villas near the coast like Jumeirah, mold growth inside walls is common due to persistent condensation or a hidden moisture source. The mold you see is likely just the visible portion of a larger colony.

For a recurring patch that has grown over months, a professional inspection is strongly advised. Attempting a stronger cleaner yourself often just disperses harmful spores without addressing the root cause, which could be a small leak in the plumbing, rising damp, or condensation within the wall cavity. Professionals use moisture meters and thermal imaging to pinpoint the exact water source, which is critical for a permanent solution.

The remediation process itself requires containment to prevent cross-contamination and specialized air scrubbers to capture airborne spores. In many cases, the wall may need to be opened to properly treat and dry the structure. For health safety, and to ensure the problem is resolved according to Dubai Municipality standards, a certified remediation company with its own microbiology lab can verify the cleanup was successful through post-remediation testing. This is the only way to be certain the environment is safe and the mold won't return.
