Best way to permanently remove shower mold in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed this ugly black speckled mold growing in the grout between the tiles in our master bathroom shower. It's the ensuite in our villa in Arabian Ranches, and the room doesn't have a window, so it never really dries out completely. What's the best product I can find locally to kill this for good and stop it from coming back?

Bathroom mold in Dubai is almost always due to persistent high humidity and condensation, especially in a windowless ensuite. The black speckled type in grout is typically a surface mold, but it indicates a chronic moisture problem that must be addressed for a permanent solution.
For a DIY approach, start with a dedicated anti-mold cleaner from any major hardware store; look for ones containing chlorine-based agents or specific mold inhibitors. Apply it, let it sit for the recommended time to penetrate the grout, then scrub. However, this often only removes the visible growth. To prevent rapid regrowth, you must change the bathroom's environment. Run the exhaust fan for at least 30 minutes after every shower. Wipe down wet tiles and glass surfaces with a squeegee immediately after use. Consider a portable dehumidifier for a windowless room to actively pull moisture from the air. If the mold returns quickly despite these measures, or if there's a musty odor, the growth may have penetrated behind the tiles. In such cases, surface cleaning is insufficient. Professional assessment is advised to determine the extent of the problem and whether the grout needs remediation or replacement to fully resolve the underlying moisture issue. |
