Is black mold removal costly for a Dubai villa bedroom?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it’s from the black mold I just found behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom in our Jumeirah Park villa. We noticed it after that really humid spell we had a couple of weeks ago. I’m worried it’s a big job and I have no idea what this kind of professional remediation usually costs here. Is this something I absolutely need to hire a professional company for, and roughly how much should I budget for a room this size?

Black mold in a Jumeirah Park villa is a serious health concern, especially with children experiencing coughing. The recent humid spell likely caused condensation behind the wardrobe, a common issue in Dubai's climate where year-round AC use can create cold surfaces for moisture to accumulate.

For a contained area like this, professional remediation is strongly advised. Disturbing it improperly can aerosolize spores, spreading them through the AC system and potentially worsening the air quality. Professionals contain the area, use HEPA filtration, and ensure the moisture source is addressed to prevent immediate regrowth.

The cost for a single room remediation is not typically exorbitant. It is driven by the extent of the infestation and whether the drywall or backing material needs to be removed and replaced. Since the mold is behind furniture, the wall itself is likely affected.

You should budget for two services: inspection and remediation. A proper inspection, ideally with surface and air samples sent to a microbiology lab for identification, is the first step to understand the scope. Remediation then addresses the root cause and safely removes the contaminated materials. Request a detailed assessment and quote from a company that provides documented proof of clearance testing after the job is complete, verifying the spore count in the room has returned to acceptable levels. This is the standard for verifiable work in the UAE.
