Mold on bedroom carpet edge: DIY or call Dubai professional?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots growing along the edge of the bedroom carpet, right where it meets the wall. It's on the wall that faces the outside, and I'm worried it might have started after all the humidity last month. I've tried wiping it with vinegar but it just comes back. Is this something I can handle myself with products from ACE, or should I just call a professional mold removal company in Dubai, and if so, what's a rough cost I should expect for a single room?

That pattern suggests a moisture issue, likely from condensation where the cold wall meets the warm room air, a common problem in Dubai's climate. The recurring growth after wiping means the moisture source is active, so surface cleaning won't solve it.

For a small, surface-level patch, a DIY approach with a dedicated fungicide from a hardware store can be attempted, but you must first identify and stop the moisture source. However, since it's on both the carpet and wall, the mould may have penetrated deeper into the carpet backing and possibly the wall material behind it, which DIY methods rarely address.

Given the recurrence and location on an exterior wall, a professional inspection is strongly recommended to assess the extent. They use moisture meters and borescopes to check inside the wall cavity for hidden growth, which is a frequent issue here. The cost for a single room remediation can vary significantly based on the square footage affected and whether the wall itself needs to be opened. You should request an on-site assessment for an accurate scope of work and quotation. Look for providers who can explain the source of the moisture and provide post-remediation verification, such as air testing, to confirm the issue is resolved.
