Is black mold on my wall an urgent problem?« Back to Previous Page

My bedroom’s corner has had this weird black speckling growing up the wall behind the wardrobe for the last couple of weeks, and it’s definitely getting bigger. With the humidity lately, the room just feels damp all the time. How urgently do I need to get someone to look at this, or can it wait until the weekend?

Black mold on a wall in a Dubai bedroom is an issue that should be addressed within days, not weeks. The combination of high humidity and constant air conditioning creates a perfect environment for mold to thrive, often due to a hidden source of moisture like a small leak in the plumbing or condensation forming within the wall cavity.

Given that it's actively growing and the room feels persistently damp, the underlying moisture problem is ongoing. Mold can cause irritation—sneezing, congestion, and worsened allergies—especially in a sleeping area. For infants, elderly individuals, or anyone with asthma or respiratory conditions, the risk is higher and action should be more prompt.

In the UAE, landlords are generally responsible for fixing the source of the moisture intrusion, such as a leak, under the Dubai Rental Law. However, you are responsible for reporting it. Do not attempt to simply wipe or paint over it, as this will not address the moisture source and the mold will return. A professional inspection can identify the exact species and, more importantly, locate and diagnose the moisture source to ensure the remediation is effective. It is not something that should wait until the weekend if you can help it.
