How to safely remove mold and prevent it from kids' room?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing at night for the past two weeks and I’ve just found patches of black fuzzy mold behind their bedroom wardrobe, which is on an outside wall in our villa in Jumeirah. I’m really worried about their health and how this happened even though we run the AC constantly. What is the safest and most effective way to get this professionally cleaned and make sure it doesn’t come back?

Mold behind furniture on exterior walls is very common in Dubai villas, as these walls are often colder due to constant AC, leading to condensation when they meet the warm, humid outdoor air. This trapped moisture creates the perfect environment for mold growth.

For the safety of your children, do not attempt to clean significant growth yourself. Disturbing it will release a high concentration of spores into the air they breathe. The safest approach is a professional remediation that includes containment of the area, use of HEPA filtration devices to capture airborne spores, and specialized antimicrobial cleaning of the affected surfaces.

To ensure it doesn't return, the source of moisture must be addressed. A professional inspection can identify if this is due to a specific insulation issue with that wall or general humidity imbalance in the room. After remediation, consider using a dehumidifier in conjunction with your AC, ensure the room is well-ventilated periodically, and move furniture a few inches away from exterior walls to allow air circulation. For health verification, a post-remediation viability test from an independent lab can confirm the environment is safe.
