Can I remove Dubai apartment mold myself or call professional?« Back to Previous Page

The wall behind our sofa in the living room has started showing these black, fuzzy patches, and it's been spreading since the humidity really kicked in a few weeks ago. I tried wiping it with vinegar, but it came back worse. Given how common AC issues are here in my Dubai Marina apartment, is this something I can tackle myself with a stronger cleaner, or do I absolutely need to call in a professional mold remediation company?

The black, fuzzy growth on your wall is a classic sign of a moisture issue, likely worsened by the high humidity and AC condensation common in Dubai Marina apartments. While small surface mold can sometimes be managed, your situation—spreading growth that returned after a DIY attempt—indicates a deeper problem that requires professional assessment.

Vinegar and bleach are temporary surface fixes that don't address the root cause, which is often hidden moisture within the wall cavity from a slow leak or persistent condensation. In Dubai’s climate, this moisture source will continue to feed regrowth. For any area larger than roughly one square meter, or if the mold has returned, professional remediation is strongly advised to prevent structural damage and potential health effects from airborne spores.

A proper remediation involves isolating the area, using HEPA filtration to capture spores, safely removing contaminated materials, and applying EPA-approved antimicrobials. Crucially, a professional will use a moisture meter to identify and rectify the hidden water source, which is the only way to prevent it from coming back. For verification, many companies, including those with their own microbiology labs, can provide post-remediation testing to confirm the space is truly clean.
