Should I get a mold inspection for black bedroom splotches?« Back to Previous Page
|
The wall behind our wardrobe in the bedroom has these weird black splotches that we only noticed when we moved the furniture to rearrange. We’ve been in this Jumeirah Village Circle villa for about three years and it’s been fine, but I’m worried it’s been spreading slowly. Is it worth getting a professional mold inspection for this, or can I just clean it with bleach myself?

Black splotches behind furniture in a Jumeirah villa are a common indicator of a mould colony, likely due to Dubai's high humidity and constant AC use creating condensation on cooler exterior walls. While it might be tempting to clean it yourself, a professional inspection is strongly recommended in this case.
The primary reason is that bleach only removes surface discoloration; it does not address the moisture source or the hyphae (roots) growing into the porous wall material. The mould will almost certainly return. An inspection identifies the specific species—some are more problematic than others—and, most critically, locates the exact moisture source, whether it's a minor condensation issue, a hidden pipe leak, or seepage from an external wall. This is vital for a permanent fix. Given the villa's age and location, the problem may be more extensive than what's visible. A proper assessment involves moisture meters and thermal imaging to see inside the wall cavity. For health and property integrity, the investment in a diagnostic inspection to understand the root cause is far more effective than repeated, ineffective surface cleaning that allows the issue to worsen unseen. |
