Urgent: Black mold in bedroom, safe to sleep?« Back to Previous Page
|
We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a cluster of dark, fuzzy black spots spreading from the corner of our master bedroom closet. It's on the wall that faces the outside, and with the recent humidity, it seems to be getting bigger every few days. My wife has been waking up with a stuffy nose and I'm starting to worry. How urgently do I need to get this professionally treated here in Dubai, and should we be sleeping in that room?

Based on your description, you should not sleep in that room until a professional assessment is done. The combination of its rapid growth on an exterior wall and the associated health symptom (your wife's stuffy nose) indicates an active moisture issue that needs immediate attention.
In Dubai's climate, exterior walls are common sites for condensation buildup, especially with continuous AC use creating a temperature differential. This trapped moisture, combined with high ambient humidity, creates an ideal environment for mold. The fact it is fuzzy and spreading daily confirms it is active. For any visible mold colony covering more than a square foot, and especially when health symptoms are present, professional inspection and remediation are strongly recommended. DIY attempts often disturb the spores, spreading them further without addressing the hidden moisture source within the wall cavity. A proper inspection will use moisture meters and borescopes to assess the wall's interior. Until you can get a professional evaluation, increase ventilation in the room by keeping the door closed and the AC running to lower humidity. Do not attempt to scrub or spray the area yourself, as this can aerosolize the spores. The priority is to identify and stop the moisture intrusion, which is likely condensation or a minor leak, before any cleaning can be permanently effective. |
