Cost to fix black grout in humid Dubai bathroom?« Back to Previous Page

The grout between the tiles in my master bathroom in Jumeirah Village Circle has been turning black for a couple of months now, and no matter how much I scrub with bleach, it just comes back. It’s a small bathroom with no window, so I think the humidity is the main issue. I'm wondering if it's worth trying a professional deep clean or if I should just go straight to a full regrouting service—can anyone give me a rough idea of the cost for either option in Dubai?

That black grout is almost certainly mould growing within the porous material, not just on the surface. In a windowless bathroom, daily showers create persistent high humidity that bleach cannot resolve—it only bleaches the surface colour and returns within weeks as the internal colony regrows.
For a small bathroom, a professional deep clean using EPA-approved, non-bleach biocides applied with steam or ULV fogging can penetrate and address the root colony. This is often a viable first step. However, if the mould has deeply penetrated or the grout is cracked, full removal and regrouting with a mould-inhibiting epoxy grout is the definitive, permanent solution. Costs in Dubai vary significantly by the extent of work and materials. A simple deep clean for a small area is generally more affordable. A full regrout is a more involved process and thus a larger investment, but it's the only way to guarantee the issue is solved if the grout is compromised. Before deciding, a professional inspection can confirm the severity. The right approach depends on whether the mould is superficial or has compromised the grout's integrity. For lasting results, also address the humidity source by ensuring your exhaust fan is functioning correctly and running it for at least 30 minutes after showering. |
