Urgent to call mold removal for AC leak?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment seems to be leaking a bit of water onto the carpet in the living room, and now I’m seeing a small black patch of mold where the wall meets the floor. It’s been like this for maybe two weeks. With this humidity, I'm worried it's spreading inside the wall. How urgently do I need to get a professional mold removal company out here, and is this something I can handle myself in the meantime?

You need to address this within days, not weeks. The combination of a persistent AC leak and Dubai's high ambient humidity creates an ideal environment for mold to proliferate deep into building materials like drywall and carpet backing, where it's invisible.

This is not typically a DIY fix for two key reasons. First, simply wiping the visible spot with bleach or vinegar only addresses the surface and will not eliminate the root colony growing within the damp wall cavity. Second, disturbing mold without proper containment can inadvertently release a high concentration of spores into your living space.

A professional assessment is strongly recommended to determine the extent of the hidden damage. Reputable inspectors use moisture meters and borescopes to see inside walls, and their remediation plans follow strict containment protocols to prevent cross-contamination.

Until a pro arrives, your immediate actions are to stop the moisture source and increase ventilation. Place a towel or bucket under the leak and contact your building's maintenance to fix the AC drain line immediately. Run a dehumidifier in the room if you have one and keep the area as dry as possible. Avoid disturbing the visible mold patch.
