Need professional mold treatment or can I DIY this week?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our Jumeirah villa for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black, fuzzy mold spreading along the bottom corner of the wardrobe in our master bedroom. It’s on the wall that faces the outside, and the room has felt more humid lately even with the AC running. Given how quickly it seems to be growing, is this something I need to get professionally treated like, this week, or can I handle it myself with a store-bought cleaner?

Given the location, speed of growth, and accompanying humidity, professional assessment is likely needed. The black, fuzzy growth on an exterior wall in a humid room points to a persistent moisture source, likely condensation from the temperature difference between the AC-cooled room and the hot exterior wall. This is a common issue in Dubai villas.

For a patch smaller than one square meter, you can attempt to clean it yourself with a vinegar or hydrogen peroxide solution. Wear an N95 mask and gloves. However, DIY cleaning only addresses the visible growth, not the underlying moisture problem. The mold will almost certainly return if the condensation issue isn't resolved.

Given it's spreading quickly and the room feels humid despite AC, the root cause needs professional diagnosis. The AC unit itself may be undersized, faulty, or require servicing to properly manage humidity levels. A professional inspection can identify the exact moisture source and measure the room's humidity to prevent recurrence.

While not an emergency requiring same-day service, you should schedule an assessment within the week to prevent further spread into the wardrobe and wall cavity. Look for a provider that offers a moisture assessment and can explain the specific cause, not just a cleaning service. Verifiable before-and-after testing is the key differentiator for effective remediation.
