Should i treat closet mold immediately or wait?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a few small black spots appearing in the corner of our master bedroom closet. It’s an interior wall and the room always feels a bit damp, even with the AC running constantly. With this humidity, is this something I need to get treated immediately or can it wait a few weeks until my schedule clears up?

Black spots in a closet on an interior wall with a persistent damp feeling indicate an active moisture issue that should be addressed promptly. In Dubai’s climate, where high humidity can penetrate even air-conditioned spaces, delaying can allow the colony to expand.

The dampness suggests a possible condensation issue from the AC or, less likely, a hidden plumbing leak. For now, you can wipe the visible spots with a diluted detergent solution (1 part detergent to 10 parts water) and ensure the closet is thoroughly dried. Increase air circulation by leaving the closet doors open and running a fan. A dehumidifier in the room can help significantly.

However, this is a temporary measure. The underlying moisture source must be identified and corrected to prevent rapid regrowth, which can happen within days in these conditions. A professional inspection is recommended to diagnose the cause—whether it's inadequate AC output, poor insulation causing condensation, or another issue. They can also verify the mold type, as some common household varieties are primarily irritants while others warrant more urgent action. For a confirmed, recurring problem, remediation involves source correction, proper cleaning, and applying protective coatings to prevent return. Waiting weeks risks the colony spreading to the back of the wall or your belongings.
