Is this closet mold an urgent professional fix?« Back to Previous Page
|
Our master bedroom closet on the outside wall has started to get these black speckles in the corner, and it feels really damp. I only noticed it a couple of days ago after I pulled out a winter jacket, but with the humidity creeping up again, I’m worried it will spread really fast. Is this something I need to get a professional to handle immediately this week, or can it wait until the weekend?

That sounds like a classic case of condensation-induced mold, very common here with our high humidity. Given its location on an outside wall and the damp feel, it's likely the wall is colder than the room's air, causing moisture to condense and mold to grow. You are right to be concerned about it spreading quickly.
This situation warrants a professional assessment this week. The dampness indicates an active moisture issue that needs to be identified and stopped. In the immediate term, improve air circulation around that closet. Leave the door open and point a fan towards the area; running a dehumidifier in the bedroom can also help reduce the ambient moisture level that's feeding it. Do not attempt to scrub it yourself with bleach, as this can aerosolize spores and only bleaches the color, leaving the root structure intact. A professional will use containment procedures and specialized antimicrobial agents to properly remediate it. More importantly, they will diagnose the source—whether it's a simple case of condensation needing an insulation fix, or something more serious like a hidden pipe leak within the wall that requires immediate attention. The goal is to fix the moisture problem first, then safely remove the mold. |
