Urgent to call mold inspector for closet spots and smell?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a few small black spots appearing in the corner of our master bedroom closet, which is on an interior wall. It’s been extra humid the last few weeks and the musty smell is really strong when we open the closet doors. How urgently do we need to get a professional mold inspection, or is this something we can handle ourselves with cleaning first?

Visible spots with a strong musty smell indicate active growth, and Dubai's high humidity provides the perfect environment for it. On an interior wall, this often points to a condensation issue, possibly from the AC system or a small, hidden leak.

For a small, isolated area (less than one square meter), you can attempt cleaning with a vinegar or hydrogen peroxide solution while wearing a mask. However, the persistent smell is a significant concern. It suggests the mould may be more widespread within the wall cavity or behind the baseboards, which you cannot see or effectively treat yourself.

In Dubai's climate, ignoring this can allow it to spread quickly to other areas. A professional inspection is advised to identify the exact moisture source—whether it's condensate drain line leakage, poor insulation creating a cold spot, or another issue. They use moisture meters and thermal cameras to find hidden dampness that DIY methods will miss. The goal is to fix the root cause, not just wipe away the visible result. Without addressing the moisture, it will return.

Saniservice's approach involves lab analysis to identify the mould type, which informs the correct remediation protocol, but the initial inspection to find the water source is the most critical step here. Given the symptoms, getting an assessment within the next week is a prudent course of action.
