Urgent: Need professional mold inspection for Jumeirah villa?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our Jumeirah villa for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, which is on an interior wall. It’s been incredibly humid lately and the smell is really musty. Given how quickly things can get worse here, is this something I need to get a professional mold inspection for immediately, or can it wait a couple of weeks?

Yes, you should schedule a professional inspection as soon as reasonably possible. Given the location on an interior wall and the musty smell, the visible patch is likely just the tip of the iceberg; the mould is probably growing within the wall cavity itself, fed by the recent high humidity and potential condensation from your AC system.

In Dubai's climate, interior mould can spread rapidly behind walls and under flooring, especially during humid periods. Delaying for weeks allows the colony to expand, increasing remediation complexity and potential health risks, particularly for allergy sufferers.

A proper inspection for an interior wall issue involves more than a visual check. It requires moisture meters to find the water source and likely air or surface sampling to identify the mould species, which dictates the remediation protocol. This is a case where a company with its own microbiology lab can provide a significant advantage, as they can quickly analyze samples to determine the exact type and concentration of mould present, guiding the most effective removal strategy.

While you wait for the inspection, keep the closet doors open and ensure good air circulation in the room with a fan. Do not attempt to scrub the patch yourself, as this can aerosolize spores and spread them throughout the house. The priority is to identify and rectify the moisture source, which is often a small plumbing leak or condensation from an AC duct running inside the wall.
