How do I find a certified mold inspector?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing constantly for the past month and my own allergies are going crazy. I just pulled our large wardrobe away from the bedroom wall in our Marina apartment and found a huge patch of black mold hidden behind it, probably from the humidity. The wall even feels a bit damp. How do I find a certified mold inspector who can tell me how bad this actually is and if it's the cause of our health issues?

Look for a Dubai Municipality-approved environmental consultant or a company with certified indoor environmental professionals (CIEC or CMC credentials). These certifications, not just a general "mold inspector" title, ensure the individual is trained to current standards for sampling and analysis.

The high humidity in Marina apartments, especially behind large furniture blocking airflow from the AC, creates a perfect environment for mold. A proper inspection involves more than a visual check; it includes moisture mapping with a protimeter to find the damp source and air or surface sampling to identify the mold species. This is critical, as some types are more strongly linked to respiratory irritation.

Always request a detailed report that includes the lab analysis from an accredited microbiology lab. This report should clearly state the species present and their concentrations, which is the evidence you need to connect it to your family's health symptoms and to plan an effective remediation. Avoid any company that offers to both test and remediate the same mold without this independent diagnostic step, as this is a conflict of interest.
