Bathroom mold in the UAE is almost inevitable due to the high humidity and year-round AC use, which creates significant condensation. The key is not just to remove it, but to manage the moisture that allows it to grow.

For small, surface-level mold on non-porous surfaces like tiles and grout, a solution of white vinegar or a diluted bleach cleaner can be effective. Always wear a mask and gloves. Scrub the area thoroughly and ensure the space is well-ventilated during and after cleaning. The most critical step is to eliminate the moisture source. Run the bathroom exhaust fan for at least 30 minutes after every shower and keep the door open to allow air circulation. Wipe down wet walls and shower screens with a squeegee immediately after use. A dehumidifier can also help significantly in enclosed bathrooms.

If the mold covers a large area (generally more than one square meter), has a persistent musty odor, or keeps returning despite your efforts, the issue is likely deeper within the walls, ceiling, or under the flooring. This is very common when AC condensation drain lines leak inside walls. In these cases, professional inspection is necessary to identify the hidden moisture source. Remediation involves contained removal of affected materials and addressing the root cause, not just surface cleaning. For renters, notify your property manager immediately, as this is typically a landlord responsibility under Dubai Municipality regulations.
