Black mold on carpet in Dubai, need inspection?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black speckles growing along the edge of the carpet in our master bedroom, right against the wall. It’s been worse since the humidity kicked in last month. I’m really worried it’s spreading behind the skirting boards. What’s the best way to get a proper mold inspection done here in Dubai, and should I get the AC ducts checked too?

Black mold on carpet edges is a serious indicator of excess moisture, often from humidity condensation or a hidden leak. Given Dubai's climate and your description of it worsening with humidity, a professional inspection is strongly advised to identify the source before it spreads inside walls or under floor slabs.

The best inspection method here is a combination of moisture mapping and air quality testing. A thorough inspector will use a moisture meter on the wall, carpet, and subfloor to trace the water source, which is often a leaking AC drain line, pipe condensation, or capillary rise from the slab. Air sampling can identify the spore types and concentration levels, which is critical for assessing risk and planning remediation.

You should absolutely have the AC system inspected. In Dubai's year-round AC use, evaporator coils and drain pans are common moisture sources. If the AC unit is near this area, a clogged condensate drain line could be leaking moisture directly into the wall and under the carpet. Duct inspection can determine if the system is spreading spores to other rooms.

Look for a provider with certified inspectors (like IICRC or equivalent) who can provide a detailed report with lab results from a recognized microbiology lab. This documented evidence is essential; it differentiates a proper diagnosis from a superficial visual assessment and is often required for landlord communications or insurance claims in the UAE. The inspection should pinpoint the exact moisture source to ensure any cleanup is effective and permanent.
