DIY mold fix or call a pro for Mirdif bedroom?« Back to Previous Page

The wall behind our bedroom wardrobe in Mirdif has started showing these weird black spots, and the room just feels damp all the time, especially since the humidity kicked in. I'm worried it's mold and my husband thinks we can just wipe it down with bleach ourselves, but I'm not so sure it's that simple. Should we attempt a DIY fix for this or is it time to just call a professional mold removal company?

Wiping with bleach is a temporary surface fix that fails to address the moisture source, so the mold will almost certainly return. Mirdif's high humidity and year-round AC use create ideal conditions for wall mold, especially behind furniture where air circulation is poor.

For a small patch (under one square foot), a thorough DIY approach can work. Move the wardrobe, scrub the area with a detergent solution (not just bleach), dry it completely with fans, and fix the humidity source—often it's condensation from an AC duct or a minor leak.

However, since you describe a persistent damp feeling and the wall is affected, the moisture is likely inside the wall cavity. This requires professional assessment. DIY attempts can disturb hidden colonies, spreading spores. Professionals use moisture meters and borescopes to find the source, remove contaminated materials safely, and apply antimicrobial treatments that penetrate deeper than bleach. For health safety and a permanent solution, a professional inspection is recommended in this case.
