Mold in closet: professional cost and risk for baby?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years in Jumeirah and just noticed these black speckles spreading in the corner of our master bedroom closet, which is on an outside wall. It's gotten worse since the humidity spiked a couple of weeks ago, and we're worried about our baby who sleeps in the next room. What's the realistic ballpark cost for a professional mold remediation company here to properly handle this, and is it worth it versus trying to clean it myself with bleach?

The risk to your baby is the primary reason to get a professional assessment. Airborne spores from that closet are likely circulating into the nursery. While many molds cause only irritation, certain species common in Dubai's humid climate can provoke more serious respiratory issues in infants.

For a small, visible patch like that, professional remediation is typically a focused, single-day job. The cost is generally not prohibitive and is justified by the health concern. A proper company won't just wipe the surface; they will contain the area, use HEPA vacuums to capture spores, identify and rectify the moisture source (likely condensation from the AC or a minor leak in the external wall), and apply specialized antimicrobials. Bleach is ineffective on porous surfaces like drywall and can actually aggravate the problem by releasing more spores without killing the root structure.

Request a detailed inspection and quote. The process should include moisture mapping and ideally air sampling to identify the species. This data is crucial for assessing the specific risk to your family. Any reputable provider will be transparent about their methodology and willing to explain the Dubai Municipality-approved protocols they follow.
