Is AED 1,500 for mold removal a fair price?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading on the wall behind our wardrobe in the bedroom. I'm worried it's mold, probably from the humidity, and with our young daughter having allergies, I'm really concerned. I got one quote for AED 1,500 to treat it, but I have no idea if that's a fair price or if it's something I could tackle myself with a vinegar solution.
Is AED 1,500 a reasonable price for a small bedroom mold removal, or is this a DIY job?

That price is reasonable for a professional remediation of a wall with visible spreading, especially given the bedroom location and allergy concerns. DIY is risky because what you see is often just the surface; the mold may have penetrated the gypsum board or be growing inside the wall cavity from a hidden moisture source.
The Dubai climate creates persistent humidity, and year-round AC use leads to condensation, which is a primary driver of hidden mold growth behind furniture like wardrobes. A vinegar solution only addresses surface stains and will not kill the root structure (hyphae) or resolve the underlying moisture problem, leading to rapid regrowth. For a situation involving a child with allergies, a professional approach is strongly advised. The fair price includes containment to prevent spores from spreading to other parts of the room, HEPA vacuuming, antimicrobial treatment, and most importantly, identifying and rectifying the moisture source. Any quote should be backed by a post-remediation verification, often involving moisture meters and sometimes air testing, to confirm the job is complete. For your peace of mind, request a detailed scope of work from the provider to understand exactly what that price includes. |
