How urgent is mold cleanup for my coughing kids?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing for the past two weeks and their allergies are going crazy. I just pulled out a bag of winter clothes from the back of the wardrobe and found a whole section of the wall behind it covered in black and green fuzzy spots. We’ve lived in this Discovery Gardens apartment for 2 years and just noticed this. How urgently do I need to get this professionally cleaned for my family's health?

This requires immediate attention. The combination of visible mold growth and respiratory symptoms in children is a clear indicator that the indoor air quality is affecting your family's health. The mold spores from that wall are likely circulating through your apartment's air, exacerbating allergies and causing persistent coughing.
Given Dubai's high humidity and the constant use of AC, which can spread spores, this is not something to delay. The wall behind the wardrobe suggests a condensation or moisture issue, common here when airflow is restricted against cold exterior walls. Do not attempt to clean it yourself with bleach, as this can agitate the spores and make the air quality worse temporarily. For a situation like this, a professional inspection is strongly recommended to identify the moisture source and the mold species. Some types, like certain black molds, are more strongly linked to respiratory issues. A proper remediation plan will contain the area, remove the contaminated materials safely, and address the underlying dampness to prevent recurrence. Until it's handled, keep the children out of that room and improve airflow by leaving the wardrobe open and running an air purifier if you have one. |
