Who should I call for black mold in my Dubai home?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing for a couple of weeks, and I just pulled back the wardrobe in our master bedroom to find a huge patch of black mold on the wall behind it. We're in an older building in Bur Dubai and I'm worried it's been spreading because of the humidity. What's the best way to handle this properly and who should I call for a reliable assessment?

Start by calling a certified mold inspector who offers both visual assessment and air quality testing. In older Bur Dubai buildings with high humidity, the visible mold is often just part of the issue; spores can spread through the AC system. A proper inspection should identify the moisture source (like a hidden pipe leak or condensation) and the mold species.

For a reliable assessment, look for a provider with their own microbiology lab, as this ensures they can culture samples and give you a precise report on the type and concentration of mold present. This is critical when health symptoms like persistent coughing are involved. The Dubai Municipality has guidelines for indoor air quality, and a science-driven company will align its reporting with these standards.

Do not attempt to remove a large patch yourself. Disturbing it will release a massive amount of spores. A reputable remediation company will first contain the area, use HEPA filtration to clean the air, remove the contaminated materials safely, and most importantly, fix the underlying moisture problem to prevent it from returning. Given the climate, the root cause is often chronic humidity or AC condensate drain issues, which they can diagnose.
