Can I remove Jumeirah AC mold myself or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment in Jumeirah seems to be leaking a bit and now we’ve got a patch of black mold, about the size of a dinner plate, spreading on the wall behind the bedroom wardrobe. We noticed it a couple of weeks ago but it’s definitely getting bigger, and I’m worried about my allergies acting up. Is this something I can handle myself with cleaning products from ACE, or should I just call a professional company for mold remediation, and what’s the typical cost range for a small job like this in Dubai?

Given the size and location of the mold, this is a professional remediation job. A patch the size of a dinner plate spreading from an AC leak indicates a significant moisture issue behind the wall. In Dubai's high humidity, this hidden moisture allows mold to proliferate deeply into building materials, which surface cleaning cannot address.

While products from ACE can remove visible stains, they won't kill the root structure (hyphae) embedded in the drywall or insulation. Disturbing it yourself risks aerosolizing a high concentration of spores throughout your bedroom, which will severely aggravate allergies and potentially cause a more widespread contamination.

The priority is stopping the source. You must have an HVAC technician repair the AC condensate drain line leak immediately to prevent recurrence. For the remediation, a professional company will follow Dubai Municipality guidelines for containment, including sealing the area with polyethylene sheeting, using HEPA filtration devices to capture spores, and safely removing and disposing of the affected building materials. The cost for a small, contained job like this is typically on the lower end of the scale for mold removal, but you should request an on-site assessment for an accurate scope and quote. The process is not complete without a post-remediation verification test to confirm the spore count has returned to normal indoor levels.
