Black mold in bedroom corner: DIY or call professional in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black speckles along the corner where our bedroom wall meets the ceiling. It's behind our wardrobe, so we never saw it. With the humidity lately, it seems to have gotten worse. What's the best way to handle this in Dubai – should I call a professional company or is there a specific product I can use myself first?

The black speckles behind your wardrobe are a common issue in Dubai, often caused by condensation where the cold wall meets humid room air. This creates a perfect environment for mold. For a small, surface-level area, a DIY approach can be tried first.

Wear an N95 mask and gloves. Move the wardrobe for access. Mix a solution of one part white vinegar with three parts water or a diluted bleach solution (check product instructions) and scrub the area. Let it dry completely. A dehumidifier or running your AC continuously at a lower temperature can help prevent recurrence by reducing ambient humidity.

However, since the mold is on a structural corner and has been growing unseen for some time, there is a significant chance it has penetrated the plasterboard or insulation. Surface cleaning will not address this hidden growth, and it will return. A professional inspection is strongly recommended to assess the extent of the moisture damage and mold penetration behind the wall. They use moisture meters and borescopes to see inside cavities. In many cases, effective remediation involves removing and replacing the affected drywall to resolve the problem permanently.
