How urgently do I need a mold inspection for family health?« Back to Previous Page

Our family villa in Mirdif has been feeling really humid since the heavy rains a couple of weeks ago. I just pulled a storage box out from the corner of our guest bedroom and found a bunch of black, fuzzy spots on the wall behind it and on the back of the box itself. My wife is really worried about our toddler’s health. How urgently do we need to get a professional mold inspection, and can this spread to other rooms quickly?

Given the recent heavy rains in Dubai and the visible mold growth you've found, a professional inspection is recommended within the next few days. The combination of high humidity and porous materials like drywall allows mold to establish itself and spread. For a toddler, who is more susceptible to respiratory irritation, addressing this promptly is a sensible precaution.

Mold can spread to other rooms through airborne spores, especially with constant AC use circulating air. The guest room's conditions—a potentially cooler, less-ventilated space with a hidden moisture source—are a classic breeding ground. The inspection will identify the moisture source (like a hidden leak from the rains or condensation from an AC unit) and the extent of the spread, which may not be visible behind walls.

In Dubai's climate, simply wiping the visible spots is insufficient; the underlying humidity issue must be resolved to prevent rapid regrowth. A proper inspection involves moisture mapping and often includes air and surface sampling sent to a microbiology lab to identify the species, which determines the health risk and required remediation steps. You can mitigate spread temporarily by keeping the room's door closed and the AC fan off until assessed.
