What's the best Dubai product to kill shower mold permanently?« Back to Previous Page

The grout between the tiles in my master bathroom shower has started turning black over the last few weeks. I live in a villa in Al Barsha, and I've noticed the smell gets really damp and musty for hours after the kids take their showers, even with the exhaust fan running. What is the most effective product I can find locally in Dubai to kill this mold and prevent it from coming back?

Black mold in shower grout is common in Dubai due to the high humidity and constant use of AC, which can create condensation. While no product guarantees permanent removal, a high-strength hydrogen peroxide-based cleaner is often more effective than bleach for porous grout, as it can penetrate and kill the root structure. Look for products specifically labeled for mold and mildew removal at ACE Hardware or similar stores.

Thorough application is key—spray generously, let it soak for the recommended time (usually 10-15 minutes), and then scrub vigorously. Bleach only removes surface discoloration and can weaken grout over time, making it more susceptible to future growth.

Prevention is your most effective strategy. The musty smell lingering for hours indicates your exhaust fan is insufficient for the room's moisture load. Run it during and for at least 30 minutes after showers. Wipe down the shower walls and squeegee excess water after every use to drastically reduce the moisture mold needs to grow. For severe, recurring cases where the mold seems to penetrate deeply, the grout may be compromised. A professional inspection can determine if the issue is superficial or if hidden moisture within the wall is feeding it, requiring regrouting or remediation.
