Best local product from ACE or Carrefour for ceiling mold?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots in the grout between the tiles on our bathroom ceiling in Downtown. I think the constant steam from our showers is the cause. What’s the best local product I can buy from ACE or Carrefour to get rid of it for good?

Bleach-based bathroom mold sprays are the most effective over-the-counter products available at ACE or Carrefour. Look for a spray gel formula, as it clings to vertical surfaces and ceiling grout longer than a liquid, allowing the disinfectant more time to work. Brands like HG or local equivalents are widely stocked and effective for surface-level mold on non-porous tiles.

However, for a bathroom ceiling, the black spots in the grout are often a symptom of a deeper humidity issue. The steam from your shower rises and gets trapped against the ceiling, where it condenses and gets absorbed into the porous grout. Simply spraying the surface may remove the visible stain but often leaves the root of the mold intact inside the material. For a lasting solution, the grout must be completely dry before and after treatment.

After using a cleaner, the most critical step is to control the humidity. Run the bathroom's exhaust fan for at least 30 minutes after every shower. If the fan is weak or non-existent, which is common, opening a window or wiping down wet surfaces can help. For persistent cases where the mold reappears quickly, the growth may be behind the tiles. A professional inspection can determine if the issue is superficial or requires remediation to prevent structural damage and potential health effects from prolonged airborne spores.
