How to permanently remove bathroom ceiling mold without a window?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots growing in the grout between the tiles on our bathroom ceiling in our Jumeirah Village Circle apartment. The bathroom doesn’t have a window and the smell is really damp, especially after my teenager takes a long shower. What’s the most effective way to clean this and stop it from coming back for good?

The black spots in your grout are almost certainly mold, a common issue in Dubai's windowless bathrooms due to high humidity and condensation from hot showers. The damp smell confirms persistent moisture is trapped.
For immediate cleaning, wear a mask. Scrub the affected grout with a dedicated mold remover or a paste of baking soda and water. Avoid bleach; it only removes the surface discoloration, not the root structure, and can weaken grout. Thoroughly dry the area with a fan after cleaning and showering. Permanent prevention requires controlling humidity. Install a high-quality extractor fan and run it during and for at least 30 minutes after every shower. Wipe down wet walls and ceilings with a squeegee. A dehumidifier can also help measurably reduce ambient moisture in the air. If the mold is extensive, covers a large area, or returns quickly despite these measures, the growth may be behind the tiles. In such cases, professional inspection is advised to assess the underlying cause and scope. Certified remediators can conduct air and surface sampling to identify the species and recommend a targeted, lasting solution. |
