Can I remove bedroom mold myself or call a pro in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots growing along the bottom of the wall behind our wardrobe in the master bedroom. It's pretty humid in that corner and the musty smell is really starting to get to us. Is this something I can tackle myself with bleach from Ace Hardware, or should I just call a professional company for mold removal in Dubai, and what's a reasonable price range for a single room?

Small surface mold (under 1 square meter) can sometimes be handled yourself if the moisture source is fixed. However, mold behind furniture often indicates a larger, hidden problem, and the musty smell suggests it's actively growing.

For a DIY attempt, skip bleach—it’s mostly water and can feed mold deeper in porous materials like drywall. Use a dedicated mold remover or a vinegar solution. Scrub the area, ensure it’s completely dry with a dehumidifier, and fix the humidity source, which is likely poor air circulation in that corner.

Given Dubai's high humidity and the location behind a wardrobe, this is likely due to condensation from temperature differences with the exterior wall. Simply cleaning the visible spots without addressing the hidden moisture will lead to rapid regrowth.

For a case like this, a professional assessment is wise. They use moisture meters and thermal cameras to find the exact condensation source and extent of growth inside the wall cavity. Proper remediation involves containment, HEPA filtration, and antimicrobial treatment to prevent spores from spreading.

Cost varies significantly by the root cause and scope of work. A simple surface treatment in one room will be far less than addressing a condensation issue requiring wall drying or insulation. Reputable companies provide detailed assessments and quotes based on the required remediation protocol, not a flat room rate.
