Best way to treat mold in UAE closet and prevent it?« Back to Previous Page

Our master bedroom closet on the outside wall has started getting small patches of black mold on the leather bags and shoes we store there. It’s been really humid the last few weeks and even though the AC is always on, that corner just feels damp and cold. What’s the best way to treat the existing mold and are there any specific dehumidifiers or moisture absorbers that work well for enclosed spaces like this in the UAE climate?

The mold on your leather items is likely due to condensation from the cold outside wall meeting Dubai's humid air, a common issue even with AC running. First, address the existing mold: wearing a mask, wipe the affected leather with a solution of 1 part white vinegar to 1 part water. Dry the items completely in a well-ventilated area away from that damp corner.
For the closet itself, identify and treat the source. Move everything out and clean all surfaces with a vinegar solution or a dedicated mold-cleaning product. The most critical step is to improve airflow and reduce humidity in that enclosed space. Leave the closet doors open as often as possible and consider using a compact, electric dehumidifier or a large capacity moisture absorber like silica gel pods designed for enclosed spaces. These are more effective than small disposable tubs in our high humidity. For a lasting solution, a professional inspection can identify if there's a more significant condensation issue within the wall or a problem with your AC's ability to manage humidity. They can perform surface moisture readings to pinpoint the exact cause and recommend targeted remediation, which may include improving insulation on that cold wall. |
