Is black mold in my closet a job for professionals?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a large patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, behind some storage boxes. It must have been growing slowly from the AC condensation, and I’m worried it’s spread behind the walls. I tried wiping it with vinegar but the smell and discoloration came right back.
Is this a job for a professional mold remediation company in Dubai, and roughly how much would it cost to properly fix a problem like this?

Given the location, size, and recurrence after a DIY attempt, this is a job for professionals. Black discoloration in a closet, fed by AC condensation, is a common issue in Dubai's climate. The high humidity and constant cooling cycles create ideal conditions for mold to grow deep into building materials like drywall and insulation, which vinegar cannot reach.
A professional inspection is critical here. They will use moisture meters and borescopes to assess the extent of the growth behind the walls, which you suspect. The remediation process typically involves isolating the area, removing contaminated porous materials, HEPA vacuuming, and applying specialized antimicrobial treatments to the structure. For a closet-sized area, the scope is generally manageable but the final cost is entirely dependent on the invasive spread. You should request a detailed assessment and quote. To prevent recurrence, the root cause—the condensation leak from the AC system—must be identified and repaired by an HVAC technician. Afterwards, maintaining indoor humidity below 60% with a dehumidifier is essential. |
