How urgent is mold inspection for my toddler's cough?« Back to Previous Page

Our family villa in Jumeirah 3 has been feeling really humid since the weather turned, and for the last week my toddler has been having a persistent cough that gets worse in his bedroom. I just pulled his dresser away from the wall and found a bunch of black spots behind it. How urgent is it to get a professional mold inspection here in Dubai, and should I be keeping him out of that room completely until it's done?

Given your toddler's persistent cough that worsens in his bedroom and the visible black spots, a professional inspection is highly recommended and should be scheduled promptly. The combination of a child's developing respiratory system and confirmed visual growth elevates the urgency.

You should keep him out of that room until the inspection is complete. In Dubai's climate, where high humidity and constant AC use create ideal conditions for mold, the issue is unlikely to resolve itself. The AC unit itself could be circulating spores throughout the room. Move your toddler to a different, well-ventilated space and ensure the affected room’s door is closed to contain the spread of spores.

A proper inspection involves more than a visual check; it identifies the mold species and maps the moisture source, which is critical for effective remediation. Common sources in Dubai villas include condensation from AC ducts, leaks from bathrooms, or moisture trapped behind furniture placed against cold exterior walls. The inspection will determine the extent of the problem and create a targeted plan to fix the water issue and safely remove the growth, which is essential for your family's indoor health.
