Urgent to hire pro for villa bedroom mold?« Back to Previous Page

Our bedroom in our Jumeirah villa has been feeling really damp, and I just pulled the wardrobe away from the wall and found a patch of black mold behind it, about the size of a dinner plate. With the humidity lately, I’m worried it’s spreading quickly. How urgent is it that I get a professional mold inspection, or can I handle this myself with bleach?

Given the dampness and the size of the patch, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. The Dubai climate, especially with recent humidity, creates ideal conditions for mold to grow inside wall cavities and under flooring, far beyond what's visibly apparent on the surface. A dinner-plate-sized patch is often just the tip of the iceberg.

While you can clean a small, surface-level spot with a vinegar or hydrogen peroxide solution (bleach is not recommended as it doesn't kill the roots and can worsen indoor air quality), your situation has complicating factors. The mold is behind furniture against an exterior wall in a villa, indicating a potential condensation issue or a hidden leak from plumbing or the AC drain line. Without identifying and resolving this moisture source, the mold will return quickly.

A certified inspector will use moisture meters and thermal imaging to find the moisture intrusion's exact source and scope the full extent of the growth. They can also take an air or surface sample for lab analysis to identify the mold species, which is critical for determining the appropriate remediation protocol, especially if it's a type like Aspergillus that can cause more significant health reactions. This diagnostic approach is the only way to ensure the problem is solved permanently, not just temporarily cleaned. For a case like this in a Jumeirah villa, getting a professional assessment is the most effective course of action.
