How urgently do I need a mold inspection for damp AC?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment in Jumeirah seems to be blowing out a damp, earthy smell that’s getting worse with the humidity. I started noticing it a couple of weeks ago and now my curtains near the vent feel slightly damp to the touch. With how humid it's been lately, how urgently do I need to get a proper mold inspection done?

That damp, earthy smell and the moisture on your curtains are strong indicators of active microbial growth within your AC system. Given Dubai's high humidity, this situation should be addressed with high priority.

Condensation inside AC units is a constant issue here, and when combined with dust, it creates an ideal environment for mold. The problem won't resolve itself and will likely worsen, potentially affecting your indoor air quality and leading to persistent odors or irritation. For individuals with allergies or respiratory sensitivities, acting quickly is advisable.

A professional inspection is the necessary first step. Technicians will use borescopes to visually inspect the concealed internal evaporator coils and ductwork, which is where this growth typically occurs. They should also take surface or air samples to be analyzed by an accredited microbiology lab. This identifies the specific type of mold present and informs the correct remediation strategy, as simply spraying a disinfectant is often insufficient. The process is focused on identifying the source of the moisture and the extent of the contamination to provide a clear path to a measurable solution.
